A heart defibrillator is a machine used to jolt or shock the heart during cardiac arrest. In the past, a defibrillator was mostly used by hospitals and medical facilities. AED or Portable defibrillators have become more popular and are becoming more used and more widely available.
Recently we have seen new laws being passed allowing portable defibrillators or AED machines to be used. Pressure from health advocates and producers of defibrillator machines have allowed for a loosening of the regulations.
In the past, external heart defibrillators were only used by paramedics and EMT workers, responding to cardiac arrest emergencies.
